The National Space Club and Foundation Awards
Awards are presented at the Annual Goddard Memorial Dinner to a number of outstanding individuals for accomplishments in spaceflight, engineering, science, management and education.
Directions/Criteria to Submit Nominations:
Each of the Awards include specific criteria for submission. Below are the directions on how to submit nominations, for each award as well as the criteria that is needed.

Christa McAuliffe Space Educator Award:
Who can submit: National Space Club members as well as outside nominees that fit the criteria
Where to submit: Nominee contact information should be sent directly to Chair, Lynne F. Zielinski at lzielinski.spaceaward@gmail.com.
Deadline to Submit: November 30, 2024
Criteria:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have taught at least 7 years at the high school level
- Must be involved in teaching space and STEM in and out of the classroom and have supported student research in high-altitude, microgravity, sub-orbital, and/or orbital opportunities
Application Materials:
- A brief biographical description showing your educational and teacher experience. Particular emphasis should be placed on your involvement in space science teaching both in and out of the classroom (e.g. science fairs, clubs, camps, community projects, etc.)
- At least two and not more than four letters of recommendation from people who know of your work, such as any school system official (school board, principal, science supervisor, etc.), colleague, or community leader, etc. Recommendation letters should be submitted directly to the email address above.
- One but not more than two letters of support from a student whom you have helped and advised. Please have the student submit the letter to the email address above.
- A short statement (not more than two type-written, double-spaced pages) from you concerning your interest and involvement in space science and STEM teaching.
- All submitted materials will be evaluated and the awardee will be selected on the basis of the overall effectiveness of the applicant in the teaching and promotion of secondary school space science. For active teachers, prospects of future activities in this area will also be considered.
Eagle Manned Mission Award:
Who can submit: Nominations are open to anyone
Where to submit: Nominations should be sent by email to info@spaceclub.org, or mail to: National Space Club, 515 2nd St NE, Washington D.C., 20002.
Nomination must include a CV and brief summary of candidate’s contribution to the advancement of human spaceflight.
Deadline to submit: October 4, 2024
Criteria:
- Nominee must have had a significant contribution to the advancement of human spaceflight.
Nelson P. Jackson Aerospace Award:
Who can submit: Members of the National Space Club as well as outside nominations
Where to submit: Nominations should be sent to info@spaceclub.org.
Nomination should include summary (no more than two paragraphs) of the candidates’ outstanding contributions to the missile, aircraft and/or space field and include CV.
Deadline to submit: October 4, 2024
Criteria:
- Nominee (team or individual) must be either government or industry and have contributed to the missile, aircraft and/or space field in the preceding year.
Norman L. Baker Astronautics Engineer Award:
Who can submit: Any member of the National Space Club
Where to submit: Nominations should be sent to info@spaceclub.org.
Deadline to Submit: October 4, 2024
Nomination should include summary (no more than two paragraphs) of the candidates’ personal outstanding contributions and a CV.
Criteria:
- Nominee must be a space engineer who has made an outstanding personal contribution.
Joseph V. Charyk Award:
Who can submit: NRO Directorates and Offices
Where to submit: Nominations should be sent to OHR-ART2@nro.mil.
Deadline to submit: September 30, 2024
Criteria:
- The selection is made based on the nominee’s contributions in support of the NRO’s mission in meeting the National Intelligence and Military operational needs.
General Bernard Schriever Award:
Who can submit: This award is strictly for an AD Mil Officer or Civ Equivalent at the 03-05 level. Nominations must be submitted by DoD or IC entity. Nominations from individuals will not accepted.

Press Award:
Who can submit: Any organization or individual that is affiliated with the National Space Club
Where to submit: Nominations should be sent to info@spaceclub.org.
Deadline to submit: September 30, 2024
Criteria:
- Nominees will be evaluated based on their career long achievements covering the Aerospace industry.
NOAA David Johnson Award:
Who can submit: Anyone is able to submit nominations for this award.
Where to submit: Nomination should be sent to info@spaceclub.org.
Deadline to submit: September 30, 2024
Criteria:
- Nominees should have developed an innovative application of Earth observation satellite data that is, or could be, used for operational purposes to assess and/or predict atmospheric, oceanic, or terrestrial conditions.
